Calf Feeding

Feeding management of a calf is critical in the development of the rumen and in the progression to a high performing dairy cow or beef animal

  • CMR should be mixed between 125-150 g/litre and fed at approximately 40oC from day four
  • Increase volume of CMR gradually from 3 - 6 litres in at least two feeds to avoid digestive upsets
  • Calf starter feed should be made available ad-lib from week one.  Early intake encourages rumen development and the absorptive capacity of the rumen wall.  Intake, digestion and rumen development can be further encouraged by the inclusion of Greenline Calf
  • Calves require constant access to clean fresh water
  • Good quality hay or straw should be made available
